With the Government’s focus on COVID-19, thousands are dying from curable diseases like Tuberculosis, cancer and malaria among others.

TB in Western Province is likely to worsen if no attention is given says TB emergency response coordinator Dr. Ninkama Moiya.

Dr. Moiya said one of the major setbacks is the delay of Multi-Drug resistant dozes arriving on time.

He said current TB prevalence rate in Western stands at 10,000 per 100,000 persons.

"TB is the leading cause of hospital admissions and deaths in the province. The current donor funding is insufficient to cover the full costs and government funding is not flowing as committed," he said.

Moiya said the statistic of Covid-19 deaths in PNG is no match to TB deaths in the province and called on the National Department of Health for urgent support as lives were at stake.

Meanwhile, attempts to gets comments from Health and HIV/AIDS Minister, Jelta Wong, was in vain.
