COVID-19 deaths climb on Saturday

Papua New Guinea recorded five more new COVID-19 deaths on Saturday April 17, increasing the total number of deaths to 89.

The National Control Centre reported these death were in East Sepik and in the National Capital District.

East Sepik reported two deaths, both males ages 53 and 49.

NCD reported three deaths of which two are males ages 67 and 47, and the third, a 68-year-old female.

To date, NCD has recorded 60 deaths, Eastern Highlands six, Jiwaka five, Morobe, West New Britain and West Sepik three each, New Ireland, Western Highlands, East Sepik and Western province two each and Enga recorded a single death.

In the last 24 hours, 223 new cases have been reported in 12 provinces, including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, increasing the country’s total COVID-19 cases to 9,738.
