The 65th graduation ceremony at the University of Papua New Guinea is now scheduled for 12th to 16th October, 2020, via live streaming.

Graduation coordinator Lloyd Laudiwana, said there won’t be any formal gathering or representation at the graduation ceremony like before.

He said due to COVID-19 protocols, the University council decided the five respective schools including School of Law, Business and Public Policy, Humanities and Social Sciences, Medicine and Health Sciences and Natural Physical Sciences will host their own online ceremonies.

“There won’t be any ceremonies held on main campus,” he said

Chancellor Robert Igara said the graduation ceremony was supposed to be held in April, but due to COVID-19 situation and directives from the Minister for Higher Education Nick Kuman, it is now postponed to next month.

“We will live stream this event so that families can gather together in their own homes or family gatherings to observe their celebrations through sharable live streamed videos. We acknowledge the sacrifices of many parents, guardians, communities and sponsors for this momentous event,” he said.

Igara encouraged more than 1, 000 graduands that this virtual graduation does not mean their achievements is valueless but proves they can adapt to new normal and overcome COVID-19 to commence new phase of their lives’ journey to change this country.
