National Housing Corporation (NHC) Managing Director Elizabeth Bowada is being committed to stand trial at the Waigani National Court.

Waigani Committal Court Chief Magistrate Mark Pupaka made the ruling this afternoon after finding sufficient evidence against Bowada's second charge of False Pretense.

Bowada, 41 years of age from Okaikoda Village, Losuia in Milne Bay Province had her two other charges of Misappropriation and False Pretense struck out due to insufficient evidence.

The court heard that between April 24, 2018 and January 15, 2020, Bowada who was then a Senior Legal Officer at NHC lodged a false claim of K156, 983.67.

Bowada claimed that the amount was her salary loss during the period of her dismissal from NHC on September 13, 2012.

Chief Magistrate Pupaka in the ruling says in any re-engagement, whether it is re-instatement or re-employment, it remains as a new employment unless there is a court order for salary backdated payment.

Bowada is out on K1, 500 court bail and will make her response to the decision before a date is set for a trial.
