The National Cultural Commission (NCC) today signed a broadcast agreement with media organization Kalang Advertising Limited under its radio station FM100 to strengthen its effort in fulfilling the Government’s aspirations to preserve, safeguard, protect and promote the cultural heritage of the indigenous people of PNG.

With the theme, “Our Culture, Our Identity, Our Pride, Our Future,” the program, Culture Talk will be featured on FM100’s Radio broadcast nationwide on Mondays and Fridays from 3pm-4pm, streamed live on the Kalang online platforms via website www.kalangfm.com.pg and on the Kalang App available on Google Play.

National Cultural Commission Acting Executive Director Steven Kilanda during the signing says over the years much of the traditional cultural heritage of local people have eroded and as a government institution responsible, NCC is trying all it could take back PNG through culture.

Mr Kilanda adds that reaching out to most of the custodians of the cultural heritage in rural settings nowadays in advocating and disseminating the cultural information is getting tough but with the assistance from the media organizations, they can reach out to the rural majority with cultural information, advocate them and launch awareness.

Once everything is formalized after today’s signing, the Culture Radio Program of FM100 will feature every aspect of culture and arts in the industry.

Kalang Advertising Limited Chief Executive Officer John Mong while welcoming the partnership says as PNG’s oldest commercial radio broadcast network and being 100% PNG owned and managed, FM100 have an even greater responsibility to provide local content that is relevant to the audience and to support efforts to protect, preserve and promote local cultures, heritage, traditional knowledge and cultural expressions.
