The Department of Treasury closed today to undergo a complete clean up after a staff tested positive to COVID-19.

The department released a statement conveying Secretary Dairi Vele’s decision to close office.

Secretary Vele said the office closed to allow a cleanup of work stations and to protect staff and their families.

“It was a decision made to protect the health and safety of Treasury officers in the workplace and to ensure any vulnerable officers or those with at-risk members of family is protected.”

Without giving much information about the officer, Mr Vele said they were informed an officer with the department tested positive.

“We were notified that a Treasury officer had received a positive Covid-19 test result. This officer had not recently been in the workplace, however, community transmission is high within the city and our staff should feel safe in their work environment.”

The Secretary said the department will provide support to the officer and his family where it can.

Staff worked remotely today and will resume normal duties next week Monday.
