Lae MP John Ross says there is still a need for transparent referrals of family and sexual violence – FSV – survivors.

Mr Rosso, a member of the Gender Base Violence parliamentary committee, says more coordinated efforts is also needed to raise public awareness on GBV referrals, especially in schools.

He says nothing will be done if laws created are not being enforced.

Mr Rosso further says currently safe homes are only available to victims for a limited time.

However, he recommends survivors – mostly women and their children or children – be taken into refuge/safe houses for up to 3 months, where they should be also taught new skills to help them fend for themselves, instead of being solely reliant on perpetrators.
