THE 22 candidates contesting in the Goroka by-election are advised to get approval from the Eastern Highlands Provincial Police Commander when holding gathering and rallies during the campaign period.

These remarks were made by Eastern Highlands Election Manager Steven Gore Kaupa as the by-election winds down its second of the eight week campaigning period.

Kaupa said it is important for all rallies to be approved by the PPC so that it is organized in a manner in which Covid 19 measures are applied and followed.

He appealed to the candidates and their supporters to be mindful as Covid 19 cases in the country are increasing thus, rallies held without Covid 19 measures such as social distancing is very risky.

He said nomination was peaceful and the campaign seems to be peaceful so he encouraged all to maintain the same behavior up till polling and counting period.

With the second week of campaigning winding down, candidates and the people of Goroka were visited by People’s National Congress party delegation led by former Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and Pangu Pati delegation led by Prime Minister James Marape.
