A taskforce has been set up to investigate and apprehend those involved in releasing fake news on social media.

Acting police Commissioner Donald Yamasombi issued the orders, following recent reports that the police commissioner David Manning will be arrested upon his return to work for unknown allegations.

Reports circulating on social media say that Mr. Yamasombi is planning the arrest on Commissioner Manning with certain investigators.

In a press conference today Mr. Yamasombi condemn the release of these fake news saying that this is the work of people who desire to destabilize the police force  and create a potential security issue in the country.

He says this is not the first time such fake news has been released and he will not allow such behavior by  to go unnoticed.

Yamasombi says such actions are not only unethical but criminal in nature and people behind this must be arrested and charged.

Mr Yamasombi called on responsible government bodies including NICTA and the PNG Censorship board to address the abuse of social media that is creating fear, anxiety and disorder.

He says the use of social media to discredit people is on the rise.

Meanwhile, IT expects and senior police investigators have been mobilized to investigate and expose those responsible.
