PNG Fashion and Design is currently conducting a training for textile, sewing, printing, business and marketing modules at the Phoenix hotel in Goroka, Eastern Highlands province.

The workshop trains people, especially youths who are interested and passionate in fashion and design.

Founder of PNG Fashion and Design Janet Sios said the Fashion and Design industry is a sleeping giant and has great potential to create small medium enterprises (SME’s) over night.

Mrs Sios says with the potential of the fashion industry, the PNG Fashion and Design Week is going around the country creating awareness through the training workshops.

PNG Fashion and Design has been operating in the country for five years and since then the company has held training workshops in Rabaul, Lae, Alotau and now Goroka.

Mrs Sios said since the founding year in 2016 up till now, an annual theme is put forward every year so that fashion designers work in line with the theme.

Mrs Sios said over the years, through the workshops, the company has trained over 800 plus fashion designers and the training in Goroka will add on to see the numbers increase.

Meanwhile, Mrs Sios acknowledged the Eastern Highlands Governor, Peter Numu, who donated 20 sewing machines that are being used by the facilitators and participants during the training.
