KUTUBU LANDOWNERS THREATEN TO BLOCK ROAD OVER NON-PAYMENT OF ROYALTIES

The Landowners from the Irakorahi area in Lower Foe, Kutubu, Southern Highlands Province are planning to block road access to the Kutubu oil & Gas pipeline by end of November.

Irakorahi Landowners Association claims this is due to non-payment of outstanding resource benefits.

Spokesman Dukes Anagu of Irakorahi Landowners Association says this is despite numerous calls to the National Government in written correspondences and through the media over the last six months.

Anagu says the Mupi Valve is located on their customary land, and the landowners will block road access to that area.

He says only the Prime Minister James Marape will open that road block by being physically present.

FM100 News understands that the road to Mupi Valve was closed in 2008 by striking landowners, resulting in the then Somare government making commitments to them.

This commitment has not been honored after government had changed.
