FORMER MANAGING DIRECTOR FOR NHC ARRESTED FOR K24.8 MILLION FRAUD

The former Managing Director of the National Housing Coporation was arrested and charged on Wednesday.

 

 National Fraud & Anti-Corruption Directorate arrested and charged Mr. Ditha Morris Nayabbunung with Seven counts of Conspiracy to defraud and Seven counts of Misappropriation of property valued at K24.8 million the property of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea.

 

 Mr. Ditha Morris Nayabbunung aged 40 of Wankun 2 village Markham District Morobe Province was acting Managing Director for National Housing Corporation when he committed the offences.  

 

 Police investigation revealed that Mr. Nayabbunung had on behalf of the NHC and together with former Legal Officer for NHC signed a contract of sale of 301 titles at Portion 528 Duran Farm at 8 mile NCD with PNG Resource Corporation Limited, trading as Kwik Built PNG and transferred the titles to the company.

 

The titles in question were supposed to have been under the NHC, Urban Lease Development plan, after they were acquired from the Department of Lands and Physical Planning under the ‘Buy, Sell and Share (BSS) Scheme.  These effectively made the Kwik Built PNG the owners of the 301 titles and the State lost the titles valued at K24.8 million through this illegal sale.

 

Others already charged in this matter are: 1. Former Member of Parliament for Moresby North East – Labi Amaiu, 2. Paul Pera – Former Legal Officer for NHC and 3. Mr Tiri Wanga of Department of Lands & Physical Planning.  

 

All three have been committed to stand trial in the National Court.   

 

Mr Labi Amaiu is the sole signatory to the bank account of PNG Resource Corporation Limited, trading as Kwik Built PNG.

 

After the interview and charge procedures were completed, Mr. Ditha Morris Nayabbunung was taken to Boroko Police Station where he was placed in the cells.
