Despite covid-19 pandemic, the Papua New Guinea flag was raised this morning at the independence hill to celebrate PNG's 45th Independence Anniversary at the Parliament house.

Addressing all who gathered to witness the ceremony, Prime Minister James Marape challenged every citizen to rise up and be a positive force for change by shaping the country.

He said, PNG is blessed with all kinds of resources and all must work side by side, both able and disable to achieve goals towards the development of this nation.

Marape said nothing is impossible. Each and every one must unite in efforts and bring prosperity.

The ceremony was restricted to the public as covid-19 protocols were required for social distancing.

However, the main gate was open to the public before the flag raising began, and few people were allowed to witness the ceremony.
