Bishop Dariuz Kaluza farewelled in Goroka

The former Catholic Bishop of Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province, Dariusz Kaluza was farewelled this month through a farewell mass at the Young Christians Centre hall in Goroka.

Members of the local leading parish St Mary’s gathered with parishioners, priests and other congregation members of the Holy Family and members of the outstation parishes to farewell their outgoing bishop.

Bishop Dariusz Kaluza served as the Bishop for Goroka since 2015, overseeing 9 parishes which include Kefamo, St Mary’s, Holy Family, Tafeto and Kamaliki in the Goroka district, the Pudibasa and Yonki parishes in Kainantu district and Namta parish in Daulo district.

Congregation members from the different churches said that he will be missed but dearly remembered for his humor and humility.

Bishop Kaluza was appointed by Pope Francis to be the Bishop of Bougainville thus, he will be leaving for Bougainville on November 6.

As of his announcement, the former Goroka Bishop is now serving as the Administrator of the Goroka diocese until his departure and installation in Bougainville.

Bishop Kaluza, originally from Poland, was looking after a Pastoral Centre in Mendi a decade ago before being called to Madang to assist the retired Archbishop of Madang Archbishop William Joseph Kurtz from the Society of the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD).

He was appointed Bishop of Goroka towards the end of 2015.
