PNG Defense Force Soldiers who will be deployed out into the city and country will be heavily involved in carrying out COVID19 awareness in communities.

PNGDF Commander Major General Gilbert Toropo told FM100News today that the call out of the army personnel will focus mainly in the Nation’s Capital and in provinces around the country where PNGDF establishments are available.

While a number of army personnel are already taking part in the COVID-19 operations with police and health personnel in NCD, Major General Toropo says the rest of the troops are on standby and will be deployed once funding and proper safety equipment for the operation is available.

Major General Toropo adds that this operation is not an event that was budgeted for in the PNGDF annual budget therefore it will only commence once funding is secured.

The deployment of troops will also be made to areas around the country where there is need for security.

The callout of PNGDF personnel was gazetted on the 6th of August for the army personnel to assist the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary in maintaining law and order during the COVID-19 National Pandemic Security Operation throughout the country.

The timeline of the call out was dated from the 1st August 2020 to the 1st November 2020.
